The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.

John Tsaknis, DDS

Designation: General Dentist
Dr. Tsaknis is a DC native, having grown up in Wheaton, Potomac, Frederick, Rockville and Georgetown. He went to University of Maryland, Collge Park with an undergrad in Zoology and then received his dental degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery.  Go Terps!!! He continued his training with a two year residency at the University of Maryland Medical System, to include Shock Trauma, Kernan Hospital, Childrens Hospital, Head and Neck Cancer Ward and the Baltimore Veterans Administration.

Dr. Tsaknis received a certificate for anesthesiology and is only a handful of dentist in the DC area trained in sedation.  After working as an associate for a few years, he started Tsaknis Dental & Associates in Ashburn, VA and later started Tsaknis Dental Group in downtown DC.  In 2009 Dr. Tsaknis started his third office at D Street NW, and got married to his lovely wife Terri.

Dr. Tsaknis has over 500 hours of continuing education, has been trained and certified on both the Galileos Cone Beam CT scanner and the Cerec Cad-Cam systems for same day crowns. Dr. Tasknis also provides sleep apnea appliances. He is also trained on the latest dental gadgets that you will find through-out the office, to include digital cameras, lasers and fixing the printer at the front desk.

Dr. Tsaknis has been a volunteer Firefighter for the last 18 years, from Montgomery County (Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad #1), to PG County (Berwyn Heights Vol. Fire Dept. #14), to Loudoun County (Ashburn Vol. Fire & Rescue Dept.. #6, #23 & #22). He has temporarily retired and looks forward to getting back into the hot seat in the future.

In the past, Dr. Tsaknis has liked to race sail boats in Annapolis, race cars at Summit Point, play polo in Middleburg and Great Meadows, ski and scuba dive, and now spends his free time with his family.

Indra Mustapha, DDS, MS

Designation: Periodontist

Dr. Indra Mustapha is a Board Certified Periodontist with the American Board of Periodontolgy. She received her dental degree from Howard University in Washington, DC (1995) and her specialty training in Periodontology from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (1998). She is currently on Faculty at Howard University College of Dentistry.

Dr. Mustapha was awarded a training grant from National Institutes of Health to pursue her doctoral degree with Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.  She is considered an expert in the association of periodontal disease with systemic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  Dr. Mustapha cares for the overall health of her patients with respect and compassion.  

When she is not practicing dentistry she can be found jogging around the monuments in DC with her dogs or cooking vegetarian creations with her family.

Designation: Dental Hygienist

Lauren is one of our hygienists and has been a part of our team since 2009. Lauren moved to the metro area in August of 2008 from Michigan. She attended Kalamazoo Valley Community college. That is where she received an Associates of Applied Science Degree. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and sons, playing tennis, and being outdoors.



Tiffany, RDH, BSDH

Designation: Hygienist

Graduated with her Associates of Science in Dental Hygiene at Wayne County Community College District in 2010 and continued her education at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor (UM) where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, August 2012. During her education at UM she collaborated with the Michigan Department of Community Health Oral Health Program (MDCH) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutritional program. She assessed the WIC providers’ views on oral health counseling and availability of associated resources for the MDCH Oral Health Program. This research project received the following awards:

  • University of Michigan School of Dentistry Research Day, Second Place-Dental Hygiene Category; February 2013
  • American Association of Public Health Dentistry’s Dental Hygiene Student Merit Award for Outstanding Achievement in Community Health Dentistry, First Place; April 2013
  • Awarded the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Sigma Phi Alpha Journalism Award for baccalaureate student manuscript; June 2013. Published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene in January 2014.

Tiffany is also an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association, Detroit District Dental Hygienists’ Association, American Dental Education Association and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. In October of 2013, Tiffany was the recipient of the Detroit District Dental Hygiene Association Dental Hygienist of the year award.  

Tiffany prides herself in taking her time to make each and every unique patient comfortable during their visit and uses an evidence-based approach to treating and educating her patients. Tiffany relocated to Washington, D.C in June of 2014 from Detroit, Michigan. She enjoys riding her bicycle around the city and is a huge Detroit Tigers baseball fan!  


Malina joined DentalBug in 2003. She has been in the dental field since 1994, working as a Dental Assistant, Front Desk and now Office Manager.
